Alfred L. Snowden

–

Frederick, Maryland

Alfred Latimore Snowden, Sr., the oldest of three children, was born on December 2, 1920, to the late James A. and Sadie N. Snowden, Sr. in Kemptown, MD (Frederick County). On August 14, 2014, "Brother" peacefully slipped into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Alfred attended Friendship School in Damascus, MD and Fountain Mills School in Frederick County, MD. As a young boy, Alfred sold newspapers in Frederick. He also worked at the Canning Factory in Monrovia, MD. Alfred was employed by George A Fuller as an assistant carpenter from Jan. 1941 until March 1943, when he was drafted into the U. S. Army. He received his training in Blackstone, VA and Camp Breckenridge, KY. Brother was deployed to New Guinea and the south Philippines. He was honorably discharged on January 26, 1946. Alfred received the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon, Asiatic Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Ribbon. Alfred worked as a cement mason for many years and, after retirement, started Snowden & Son's home improvement company, serving the Frederick and Montgomery County areas.

On September 11, 1969, he married Gloria Randolph. Out of that union came two sons, Alfred, Jr. and George, and three daughters Gloria, Lisa, and Joyce (who preceded him in death on August 13, 2013).

Alfred enjoyed gardening, planting vegetables and flowers. He was old school and believed in home-cooked meals, which he was always preparing. He liked to play cards and entertained himself for hours playing solitaire.

Alfred leaves to cherish fond memories: his devoted wife, Gloria; two sons, George and Alfred Snowden, Jr.; two daughters, Gloria Snowden and Lisa Worrell; two sons-in-law Randy and A.C.; five grandsons, Ryan, Randy, Lamar, George, Jr. and Jawan; four granddaughters, Latasha, Anita, Kaiya, and Kyaraia; two great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mattie Hull; devoted nephew, William (Earlene); nieces Pamela and Roseann; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents and daughter, he was predeceased by his brother, George, and sisters, Margaret and Flordye.
