Antonio Bowens

Antonio Augustus Bowens, fondly known as "Sonny" or "Brother", 88, passed peacefully on October 29, 2022 at Frederick Health Hospital. Born November 30, 1933, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Ada M. Carroll and Richard Bowens.

Sonny graduated from Lincoln High School. After serving in the Air Force, he loved to cook and worked for the Atomic Energy Commission as a chef for 15 years. He then worked for the Montgomery County Public Schools where he later retired after 20 years.

Sonny enjoyed fishing, gardening and renovations. Whether at home, helping at church functions or preparing meals for the sick, love and acts of kindness comes to mind. But most of all, Sonny loved jazz. Every year, you would find him at the Hampton Jazz Festival dancing in the stands. He had to see his Patty LaBelle and many other performers.

He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: his loving wife, Barbara Bowens; children, Antonio Bowens Jr. and Denise Bowens; sisters, Delores Epps, Consuelo Carter (James), Angilo Dupree; and a host of supportive relatives, nieces and nephews, long-time friends and wonderful neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his: stepfather, Merhle Adrien Allen; brothers, Richard Alonzo Bowens and Ricardo Allen.
