Dr. Charles Douglas Bowie, IV, 73, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Charles Douglas IV was born in Frederick, Maryland, to Charles Bowie, III, and Mary Bowie, who passed away during his early childhood.His father remarried Dorothy Bowie who reared him and his siblings.Dr. Bowie lived most of his life in Baltimore, Maryland. \r\rDr. Bowie was a passionate man who had wanted to be a dentist since he was about 10 years old. He serviced the Baltimore city community for over 40 years.He dedicated over 10 years of his practice servicing the Ryan White population.Dr. Bowie graduated from Lincoln High School and began his education at Morgan State University; however, after his junior year, he was drafted into the Army to serve our country. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Morgan State to complete his BS degree in chemistry. From there, he went to Howard University to obtain his doctorate degree in dentistry. Dr. Bowie began working under Dr. Irving Hawkins, Jr., in Baltimore in 1971.From there he completed a residency in anesthesiology at the Liberty Medical Center. He ventured out to open his own practice in 1979. He was a life-long member of the Alpha Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity in Baltimore, MD.\r\rDr. Bowie was extremely loving and proud of his three children, Kevin Naylor of Frederick, Maryland, Kelly Bey of Baltimore, Maryland, and Kevin Bowie of Baltimore Maryland. In addition, he had legal guardianship of Brittany Glover and Stevie Glover of Baltimore, Maryland. He is also survived by his wife Brenda McNeil-Bowie of Baltimore, Maryland; his brother Donald Bowie and his wife Clarissa of Bethesda, Maryland; his sister Ruth Ann Heath and her husband Sylvester of Indian Head, Maryland; his sister Alfreda Lee and her husband Phillip of Frederick, Maryland; his sister Beverly Hollingsworth of Silver Spring, Maryland; and his brother Rod Bowie and his wife Teresa of Frederick, Maryland; his son-in-law Douglas Bey; and five grandchildren Sharonda, Destini, Douglas, Taylar and Kayden. Dr. Bowie is also survived by his special friend Margaret Jenkins of Frederick, MD.Dr.Bowie also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\r\rHe was preceded in death by: his father, Charles Douglas Bowie III; his first wife, Brenda Maureen Singleton-Bowie; his brother, Thomas David Bowie; and his sister, June Bowie. \r\rDonations can also be made on Dr. Bowie's behalf to the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Metropolitan Baltimore, Inc., 4903 Liberty Heights Avenue, Baltimore, MD, 21207 for entry of his name on the Memorial Wall at the Fraternity House.
