Christine Eugenia Blackwood

–

Frederick, Maryland

Christine Eugenie Blackwood (nee Hudson) was born in the Parish of St. James, Jamaica, West Indies on April 25, 1922 to Edith Tinglin and Edward Hudson. In 1940, she relocated to Kingston, where she would later meet and marry Vivian Joseph Blackwood, the love of her life. From this union, came seven children - four boys and three girls.

In 1967, she migrated to the United States and lived in New York City. She was employed as a nanny by the owners of Sprung Monument. But the appeal to sew would draw her to return to her first love, "The Sewing Machine." This was a lifetime passion.

In 1980, she rededicated her life to The Lord and became a member of Nazareth Holiness Church of Deliverance #3. She was later appointed as President of the Mother Board where she faithfully served from 1982 to 1995, when she relocated to Frederick, MD. During her time at Nazareth, Mother Blackwood worked as a Vacation Bible School teacher. She produced skits for the Drama department, including the play "Great Women of the Bible." She also wrote poems, as well as designed and sewed costumes and banners for the church.

From 1993 to 1995, Mother Blackwood assumed the post of Overseer for the India Orphanage Mission Fund after the death of her husband, Deacon Blackwood. In Dec. 1995, she relocated to Frederick, MD and became a member of Sanctuary Progressive Community Church of God. She was elected to the Mother's Board shortly thereafter. She served as a Vacation Bible School teacher and was a member of the Nursing Home Visiting Team. Mother Blackwood also continued her benevolence by sewing clothes for the members of the church and their children. She extended her outreach via month support of various Christian national and international ministries. In the latter years of her life, she worshiped at International Community Church (ICC), previously known as Maranatha. She soon took her right hand of fellowship and called ICC her church home until the time of her death.

Mother Blackwood was known for her generosity, hospitality and love towards family, friends, and strangers throughout the community. Her home was always a safe haven to feed, clothe and shelter those in need. In addition, she and her late husband cared for and nurtured various relatives who also resided with them.

Mother Christine Blackwood transitioned to her heavenly home on July 1, 2019 from her home in Frederick, MD. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Carl. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Vivienne/Molly Williamson (Jelf), Judith, Valentine, Maria, Valencio, Sr./Junior, & Mark/Tony (Cheryl); honorary daughter: Sonia Juvik (James); grandchildren: O'Neal, Valencio, Jr., Michael, Heather, Rukiya (Shea), Marlon, Carl Anthony, & Kareem; honorary granddaughter: Kysha; great-grandchildren: Ariana, Jaliya, Kareem Jr., Lila, Cameron, Troy, Micah, Prince, Kingsley, & Laila; special nieces: Kay & Roan/Cutie; special nephews: Oswald, Vance, Michael, & Courtney/Amir; and a host of cousins, friends and church family.
