Diane Rebecca Lipscomb, daughter of the late James Robert Lipscomb and Kathleen Gilbert Lipscomb, quietly surrounded by family, departed this life on Monday, May 15, 2023, at United Medical Center in Washington, DC. Born on January 10, 1949, in Frederick, MD, Diane was the last born of nine children. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church located in Knoxville, MD. Diane was educated in the Frederick County Public School System and graduated in 1967.
Diane started working for the Library of Congress on April 15, 1968, as a Librarian Technician. During her tenure there she continued her education with the Library of Congress Training Program and The USDA Graduate School, acquiring many skills and trades until her retirement on January 1, 2006. Her other passions were faithfully assisting the OLPH Junior Auxiliary Breakfasts every 2nd Sunday of the month to help raise funds for various conferences, Hall Assistant at The Panorama Room for numerous affairs, actively engaging at the Senior Center, traveling, and most of all, family gatherings.
Affectionately known as AUNT Di, she was a very compassionate, strong, kindhearted, hardworking, trustworthy person, always willing to give a helping hand and go above and beyond. She was a loyal friend to many and loved by all. She truly LOVED her FAMILY, and GOD knows her FAMILY truly LOVES her. Aunt Di was FAMILY and FAMILY was Aunt Di. She had no biological children, but she was MOM at heart to many of her nieces and nephews and wouldn't see it any other way. She didn't take life for granted and every opportunity she had to enjoy life, she did just that, never missing a beat, especially when it came to her FAMILY. Whenever you ran into someone Di knew, especially her Senior Center friends, they would say "all Diane spoke about was her family including her latest nephew Leo (L.J. as she called him) and her nieces ... which one are you?" She always was so proud of the many accomplishments of all her great nieces and nephews, especially her latest 2022 and 2023 graduates. She wore the BIGGEST SMILE; she was so proud, A PROUD AUNT!! In her last days she fought hard with FAMILY by her side, as we always were. Our beloved Aunt Di will be sorely missed.
She leaves to cherish her everlasting memories her: closet nieces, Karen Hardy, Melissa Dawson, Cheryl Johnson, Ernessa Johnson, Leslie Barnes, Diana Lipscomb Parker, Fay Scott, and Michelle Lipscomb Payne; closest nephews, Bernie Lipscomb Sr., Jeffrey Ramey, Troy Hardy, and Marvin Dessaure; brother-in-law, Ernest Johnson; sister-in-law, Mary Lipscomb; a ton of other nieces and nephews; numerous family and friends; and her dearest best friend whom she considered family, Sandra Hardy. Diane was preceded in death by her: sisters, Hilda Scott, Janet Lipscomb, Margaret Barnes, Charlotte Johnson, and Edna Ramey; and brothers, James, Charles, and Harry Lipscomb.
