Donnie Lee Stokes, son of the late Thomas Archer Stokes, Sr. and Melba E. Stokes, was born on May 28, 1958, in Newport News, Virginia. His siblings include: Vivian Brandon, Tereasa Stokes, Delphine Stokes, Thomas A. Stokes, Jr., Angela Stokes, Archerlina Boswell, and Michael Stokes.\r\n\r\nDonnie transitioned from this life on July 7, 2022 after years of medical challenges at the Montgomery Village Healthcare Center.\r\n\r\nHe was a man of many gifts and talents. He was an artist, loved drawing and painting. In addition to that gift, he wrote numerous poems and loved running and exercising. Throughout his early school years, he received several awards for his art talent. He went on to attend the Governor's School for the Gifted at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia and was a recipient of the "Virginia Governor's Award for the Gifted and Talented". \r\n\r\nIn 1980, while studying at Rochester Institute of Technology - College of Arts and Design in Rochester, N.Y., he met and married Doris Stokes on November 19, 1983. From this union of 38 years, they were blessed with the birth of two sons. \r\n\r\nFor years he served as an armed security officer, earning a top security clearance to work at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and the Department of Energy in Germantown, Maryland. Later in his career, he was employed as a Personnel Verification Specialist and an Immediate Document Reviewer for classified documents at the Department of Energy.\r\n\r\nHe leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Neal Thomas Stokes and Darien Leonard Stokes, one grandchild Corinne Yael Stokes, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
