Mrs. Edna Louise Hardy Bowie, 88, of Hagerstown, MD, formerly of Brunswick, died Sat., June 14, 2014, at Julia Manor Nursing Home. Born on Sept. 14, 1925, she was the wife of the late Rev. Louis Bowie and the daughter of the late George and Hester Weedon Hardy. Edna graduated from Lincoln High School.\n\nMrs. Bowie was a member of Ebenezer AME Church in Hagerstown, MD. She was a former member of Ebenezer AME Church in Brunswick where she served as a faithful and committed member of the Steward Board and the Missionary Society. Edna was a former "First Lady" of Cowdensville AME Church. She was one of the founding members of the Allawadrick Missionary Society in the Western Maryland area.\n\nMrs. Bowie is survived by: four sisters, Frances Hardy, Camden, NJ, Esther Brown, Hagerstown, Eleanor Hosby (Robert), Martinsburg, WV, and Lillie Morris (Leo) Burkittsville; one brother, Robert Hardy (Wilma) of Hagerstown; sister-in-law, June Hardy, Brunswick, MD; godchild (niece), Brenda Aikens; devoted niece, Lisa Morris; devoted friends, Laurie Graves and Geraldine Knick; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Edna was preceded in death by: two brothers, George and William Hardy; and two sisters, Bessie Bussey and Kathryn Lockley.\n\nFuneral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 20, 2014, at Ebenezer AME Church, 720 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Leroy Jackson will officiate. Interment will be at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park Lawns in Elkridge, MD.
