On November 2, 2013, God called His child, Evelyn Marie Bush Overton Wynn, to rest. At 100 years of age, she died peacefully at home amongst family. \n\nEvelyn was born November 18, 2012, in Washington DC. She was the only child of the late Milton Samuel Bush and the late Marie Jordan Bush. She married the late Collis A. Overton Sr. in 1933 and one child, the late Collis A. Overton, Jr., was born of that union. In 1962, she married the late Samuel H. Wynn. She accepted Christ at an early age. \n\nEvelyn attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Washington, DC. She was a graduate of DC Teachers College, now known as The University of the District of Columbia, where she earned a B.S. in Education. She did graduate studies at Howard University, George Washington University, New York University and University of Chicago. She taught grades 3 to 6 in DC public schools for 40 years. \n\nAfter retiring from DC public schools in 1973, she moved to Baltimore, MD and taught adults at Goodwill Industries and the Adult Laboratory School at Armstrong High School. She later did counseling for job training and teaching at Snappy Toys Inc., preparing students to obtain their GED. Evelyn was a member of the Alpha Wives of Washington, DC, and the Alpha Chapter of Gamma Mu Sorority. She attended Christ's New Life Community Fellowship Church and Govans Presbyterian Church, both in Baltimore, MD. \n\nEvelyn loved to garden, both flowers and vegetables, and enjoyed canning her produce. She treasured reading her bible and could be found reading in the wee hours of the morning. She appreciated family and friends and took pleasure in entertaining with lavish luncheons and dinner parties. \n\nEvelyn is survived by her grandson, Collis A. Overton III (Gayle Overton) of Frederick, MD, granddaughter, Camille Overton of Woodinville, WA, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Overton of Kirkland WA. \n\nEvelyn took a piece of each of our hearts with her, but left us with so many memories and happy times to cherish. Her loving memory will forever live in our hearts and minds each day forward.\n\nServices for Mrs Wynn will be private.
