Frances "Bernie" Allen Obituary (1932

Frances Bernice Allen "The Matriarch of Our Family" "Bernie" Frances Bernice Allen, 87, of Frederick, MD, transitioned into eternal rest on April 21, 2020. Affectionately known to many as "Bernie" and "Nan," she was the beloved wife of the late Robert Matthew "Bunky" Allen and the devoted daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Edna Roberta Weedon Bowens. Bernie was born on October 5, 1932 in Hopehill, MD. Bernie attended Frederick County Schools and retired from Citizen's Nursing Home in Frederick, MD. Bernie loved spending time with her family and friends. Her home was always the place to go for card games and she never backed down from a trip to Charlestown Casino. She was very attentive and spent her leisure time putting together puzzles. She also enjoyed cooking; her bean soup, beef vegetable soup, and chicken and dumplings were the BEST. During her earlier years, she was a member of a Bowling League and BINGO has ALWAYS BEEN her THINGO. She was our MATRIARCH - her LOVE will FOREVER be in Our Hearts. She is survived by her son, Charles Bowens and his children, Kanissia, Charles, Jr. (Lovette), and Bryan of Glen Burnie, MD. She is also survived by her: devoted granddaughter, Carolyn Hebron; devoted great grandchildren, Tyeicka Bowens and BJ Morrison (Lakisha), who have always been by her side; and her great-great grandchildren, Rodneisha (Mike), DeAndre, Gionni, Keylen, Isaiah, Janae, Amira, Laniyah, and Maleyah, all of Frederick, MD. In addition, she is survived by her: devoted sister, Peggy Diggs (Charles); siblings, Darlene Williams (Patrick), Cindy Bowens, and Charles "Butch" Bowens, all of Frederick; Joyce McDonald of Charlestown, WV; Randy Bowens and David Bowens of Glen Burnie, MD; and Genevieve Price, James Bowens, Michael Bowens, and Carlton Scott (Vanessa) of York, PA; sisters-in-Law, Margaret Bowens and Betty Jane Brown of Frederick, MD; and aunts, Maybelle Jones and Helen Carr. She will also be remembered and missed by her: devoted nephew, Lamont "Speedy" Bowens and niece, Savannah Boyce, who routinely stopped by Frederick Health and Rehab to visit on a regular basis; devoted friend, Millie Brown, Roxena Worrell, Elsie Miller, and Sterling Harris; and son-in-law, Sonny Lee. She's also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her: children, Ronnie Bowens, Marie "Boota" Lee, and Frances "Stump" Bowens; siblings, Shirley Bowens, Jane Dorsey, Erma Thompson, Adeline Diggs, Frances Rollins, Maynard Bowens, Frank Bowens, Milton Bowens, Roger "Gumps" Bowens, Clifton Bowens, Charles (Joe) Bowens, and Sherman "Buddy" Bowens; father and mother-in-law, Marshall and Mildred Allen; grandson-in-law, Arthur Hebron; great-grandson, Terrance Dwight Bowens; uncles, William "Buck" Bowens and James "Boy" Bowens; aunts, Bessie Brown and Dutchie Bowens; daughter-in-law, Sandra Bowens; brothers-in-law, Gilmore Dorsey, Bernard "Step" Rollins, David Allen, and Marshall Allen, Jr.; sister-in-law, Gloria Bowens; and special nieces, Roxanne Dorsey, Doris Bowens and Helen Naylor. Her family would like to thank the staff members at Golden Living Center/ Frederick Health and Rehab and Hospice for the extensive care they gave to our "Nan" throughout the years.
