Howard "Scoop" Stewart Obituary (1927

Howard "Scoop" Stanley Stewart peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, following a lengthy illness. Born in Frederick, MD on February 17, 1927, he was the son of the late Roger and Ruth Fredericks. Scoop, as he was affectionately called, attended Frederick county schools, served in the United States Army, and continued in the Army Reserves for many years. A successful businessman, Stewart was known throughout the Frederick community for being a generous and caring man who used his resources to help others. He was an established contractor who owned several properties throughout Frederick County. His pride and joy was the Amvets Post #5 on West All Saint Street, a vibrant social establishment that was a popular gathering place for many in the community. Stewart is survived by: loving and devoted wife, Barbara Ann Stewart; three daughters, Nancy K. Newman Shabaz, York, PA, Raelynn Barnett, York, PA, and Gretchen Stanton (Barry), Upper Marlboro, MD; six grandchildren, Dawn Newman, Frederick, MD, Danyiell Newman, Pennsylvania, Mark Newman, New York, Sonya Newman, Pennsylvania, Chase Barnett, Dallastown, PA, and Taren Stanton, Hanover, MD; two stepsons, Melvin and John Worthington; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Monterey Bowie, Lenora Whiten and Peggy Lee Duckett and one brother, Charles Booth. The family will receive friends at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. All Saints Street, on Tuesday, January 14 at 10 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. LaDelle Brooks officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
