Jerry W. Martin

Jerry Walter Martin Sr., of Frederick, MD, went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2015, while surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Helen Calista Martin for 52 years. Jerry was born Jan. 30, 1942, to the late James and Margaret Martin and was the foster son of the late Franny and Medessa Snowden.

He attended Damascus High School and later served his country in the U. S. Navy. He worked for the City of Rockville for over 15 years in Parks and Recreation. He later drove a dump truck for several years before landing his ideal job at Tyler Mechanical. He worked there for 12 years until retiring. Early in life he enjoyed making 8 track tapes for friends and family. He served in the youth choir at an early age at the John Westley Church. His passion was teaching karate. One of the things that made him known around the neighborhood was his cars, which stood out because of the spray painted bottom on his favorite car the Pontiac (GTO).

Two things were dear to his heart, his spiritual walk with the Lord and his softball team. He was so proud to have been given the opportunity to work with those willing to listen to God's word. He loved everyone whom he came in contact with especially all his sisters and brothers. He had several dear friends, Mr. Tyler and family. He loved this man because of his pure heart, trust, honesty, and dignity. The Martin family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. He also had a special Aunt Bernice who was just like a mother to him. He also had a lot of good times with his best friend, Larry Chaney.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jerry Martin Jr. (Patricia); 2 daughters, Monique Martin and Trina Martin; sisters, Leona, Jesse Brown, and Elise Crumb; brother, Marion Crumb; 10 grandchildren, Marcus Mason, Dawan Jackson, Isaiah Martin, David Harris Jr., Juwan Favors, Briana Martin, Jamal Favors, Jabre'a Favors, Brittney Martin, and Eugene Martin; 7 great grandchildren, R'eyana Jackson, Samiah Martin, Mesiah Martin, Isaiah Martin, Zaylianna Martin, Ally Mason and Raedyn Mason; 2 brothers-in-law, David Sewell (Helen), and Glen Sewell; sister-in-law, Dr. Suzanne Fredericq, a host of special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and several very special people in his life, Tyler family, Green family, Houman family; and best friends, Larry Chaney and Brad Dugan. Jerry was preceded in death by daughter, Kaye Lynn Martin, and brother, Eugene Martin.

He wants everyone to know that they were special to him and he loved everyone. He wanted people to know that it was not about Jerry Martin, but about Christ that was in him.

Services will be Thurs., April 9, 2015, at Frederick Seventh Day Adventist Church, 6437 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, MD. Public viewing is at 9 a.m., family will receive friends at 10 a.m. and funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Mace officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
