Frederick, Maryland
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
Leatrice Owens, eighty-eight blessed years of Frederick, Maryland was born July 14, 1935, in Lexa, Arkansas, to the late Alberta and Nathaniel Vincent. Leatrice received her wings and returned home to the Lord on July 10, 2024.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Saint Peter Church in Lexa, Arkansas where her mother was the head mother of the church.
“A Mother is the only person on earth who can divide her love among twelve children and each child still have all of her love.” She loved and cherished her children. They were the light of her life and the center of her being. She was the heart of our home and the matriarch of our family. She had a calm, quiet spirit that captivated anyone blessed enough to encounter her. She was our queen, our role model and a steadfast phenomenal woman. Although she had twelve children, and many grand and great grandchildren, everyone who encountered her felt her love and humble spirit which made her become affectionately known as “Grandma” “Ma Dear” “G Baby” and “Aunt Lee”.
She was an amazing cook and loved having fun and fellowship with friends and family. She never met a stranger, and you never left her home hungry or without a sense of fulfillment from the love that she poured into you. Though she did have a calm spirit she was not afraid to boisterously express her unwavering love for the Dallas Cowboys and depending on their season; her disdain for them! She was one of a kind and her presence will be deeply missed, but we know that her spirit will remain with us forever.
She was blessed with twelve children left to cherish her memories, eight daughters, Leatrice Nichols of Mobile, AL, and Corrine Wilson, Jeannie Owens, Beulah Braden, Barbara Gustave (Solomon) all of Frederick, MD, Julia Ramsey of Milwaukee, WI, Robie Cheek of Riverdale, GA and Rita Rodgers (Martell) of Wichita, KS; four sons, Timothy Owens of Jonesboro, AR, David Owens (Mona) of Frederick, MD, Marlon Owens (Carolyn) of Myerstown, PA, and Robert Owens (Nicole) of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Larry Charles Vincent (Betsy) of Chicago, IL and Willie Vincent (Beverly) of West Helena, AR; three sisters, Betty Sims, Dorothy Starks and Ethel Moore (Mack) all of West Helena, AR; forty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathiel and Alberta Vincent; grandson, George Henry Banks; granddaughter, Courtney Gates; sister, Irene Young; four brothers, John Vincent, Nathaniel Vincent Jr., C.W. Vincent, and Rochester Vincent Sr.
