Marilyn Davis

–

Germantown, Maryland

Marilyn Jean Davis, 61, of Germantown, Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 24, 2023. She was loved by her family and friends. She was known to be generous and kind, with a knack for making you laugh while "telling you like it is" at the same time. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Marilyn was born on July 22, 1961, to Herbert and Elsie (Harper) Copeland in Poolesville, Maryland. During her youth, Marilyn was a baptized member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Poolesville, and it is there that she found her love of the Lord. She spent most of her early years in Poolesville surrounded by extended family (Harper and Moore families) and later moved to the Middlebrook Community in Germantown, Maryland. In Middlebrook, she made many lifelong friends whom she considered to be an extension of her family. She attended Montgomery County Public Schools from K-12 and graduated in 1979 from Seneca Valley High School. In 1990, Marilyn married her life partner Leonard Davis, Jr., of Potomac, Maryland, and they built a life and home in Germantown. The couple spent over 40 years together before Marilyn's passing.

Marilyn had a stellar work ethic and excelled in the banking industry. She started her career at the Energy Federal Credit Union and progressed to the position of Vice President of Lending prior to Energy's merger with Pentagon Federal Credit Union. After the merger, she assumed the executive position of Director of PenFed Consumer Banking and Business Controls. Marilyn was focused and dedicated to her work. She even continued to attend meetings days before her passing. She loved her job and, in many ways, considered her work her most favorite hobby. She cherished the friendships she developed with her colleagues, many of whom became her closest and most devoted friends. After many years of excelling in her career, Marilyn was eager to return to school to obtain her degree. She decided to attend Strayer University and graduated Cum Laude in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Marilyn loved to travel with her husband Leonard all around the Caribbean on exciting cruise vacations. She also traveled with her daughter's family (Keisha) on vacations up and down the East Coast to amusement parks, beaches, and baseball tournaments. Marilyn was always ready for the next trip and always had one planned! She was a lover of western TV shows and movies, the Washington Commanders, and Thomas Kincaid paintings. Her home is filled with Kincaid's artwork, as she loved the beauty and realism in his pieces. However, more than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by her: husband of 32 years, Leonard Davis, Jr.; daughters, Keisha (Ariel) Dominguez, Demetrice Riley, and Kiona Davis; grandchildren, Calvin (Raquel), Maya, Isis, Ariel, Jr., Antonio, and Andre; great-grandchildren, Azariah and Amari; mother, Elsie Copeland; mother-in-law, June (Clarence) Martin; sisters, Karen Copeland, Tonjua (Clifton) Bander, and Laurie Brooks; sisters-in-law, Renee (Curtis) Dorsey, Barbara Hebron, and Bernice Davis; brothers-in-law, Perry Davis and Randy Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and devoted friends.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her: father, Herbert Copeland; father-in-law, Leonard Davis, Sr.; and sister, Robin Copeland.
