Michael Mayfield

–

Frederick, Maryland

On August 28, 1996, God blessed the world with a shining star, Michael Jerome Mayfield. He was to born to the late Sylvia Mayfield and Michael Drake in Baltimore, MD. This shining star was suddenly and tragically taken away from love ones and friends in a way that no one could have imagined.

Michael received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He attended James Mosher Elementary School, Calverton Middle School, and was set to graduate from Edmondson Westside High School on May 31, 2014. Michael has recently been accepted to Chowan University in North Carolina and was planning to attend this coming fall.

Michael, also known as Mickey or Mike, was involved in a number of school and extracurricular activities. Michael began playing baseball at the age of 6 and had established a reputation of being a handworker and team player within the James Mosher and Forest Park baseball leagues. Michael became so good over the years that by the age of 15 he began playing for Baltimore's RBI traveling league. Michael devoted much of his time playing as pitcher on his varsity baseball team, playing trombone and baritone tuba for the school band, and serving as a mentor and leader in the schools JROTC program. More recently, Michael was a participant in Baltimore's Inner Harbor Project.

Michael enjoyed spending time with girlfriend Markeda McNeil as she was never too far behind, godfather/mentor Curtis Covington, and close friends. Michael also enjoyed visiting family where he would eat and laugh.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory his: father; Michael Drake; dad, Walter Handy Sr.; 2 sisters, Tekeya Mayfield and Teresa Handy; 3 brothers, Walter Handy Jr., Demetrious Drake, and Tony Anderson; special and devoted aunt, Wendy Mayfield; girlfriend, Markeda McNeil; grandparents, Mary and Matthew Drake; aunts and uncles, Patricia, Linda, Eric and Matthew Drake; 2 nieces, Jenesis Harris and Katelyn Handy; 3 nephews, Jeremiah Harris, Walter Handy III, and Lavel Handy; brother in-law James Harris, cousins Andre Baldwin Jr., Erika and Krystal Fitch; cousin in-law Patrice Anderson; devoted friends Adrian, Nate', Emmanuel, Chayo, Sunny, and Darneta; and a host of extended family and friends.
