Rosa Arlene Drakeford Obituary (1924 - 2013)

Rosa (Rose) Arlene Spencer Drakeford, 89, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.She was born May 12, 1924, in Ijamsville, MD, daughter to the late Blanche C. Gordon and stepfather, the late Anthony B. Gordon. Rose was joined in marriage to Henry Drakeford of New York, NY, in January, 1942. She was the loving mother of daughter Mildred D. Patterson and son Robert H. Drakeford. Rose began her education in Frederick County and later attended the New York City Public School System.In the early 1980's, she returned to Frederick County where she resided at Taney Village and was an active participant of the Northampton Manor Auxiliary as well as other community groups.Rose later became a resident at Northampton Manor due to health reasons.She was a positive light of both communities and an inspiration to all who knew her. Rose was also a member of Quinn Chapel AME Church, where she faithfully attended weekly Bible study and was a member of the senior choir. She is survived by: her daughter, Mildred D. Patterson; four grandchildren, Cheryl Patterson Ibanez, Wanda P. Santiago, Lynette N. Patterson, and Vernardo R. Drakeford; great-grandchildren Edward A. Santiago, Kayla M. Patterson-Douglas, Arielle L. Ibanez, Monica Y. Santiago, Maija S. Ibanez, Lauryn A. Patterson-Douglas, and Aliyah G. Randolph; and a host of family and friends.In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Drakeford, and son, Robert Drakeford. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 106 East Third Street, Frederick, MD.Reverend Luke J. Robinson is officiating.Interment is at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 4010 Ijamsville Rd. & Route 80, Ijamsville, MD.
