Stella Tyler

Heaven opened its gates early on Thursday, March 23, 2023 to receive its newest angel, our Mom, Mrs. Stella C. Tyler, age 82 of Frederick, MD. MaMa, as she was affectionally known, was surrounded by her loving family. Stella was born on April 9, 1940 in Baltimore, MD to Walter T. and Evelyn A. Strawn, who both preceded her in death. She married Oliver D. Tyler, who preceded her in death after more than 48 years of marriage.

Stella attended Baltimore City Schools and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School and Cortez Peters Business School. She was then employed at Baltimore City Community College. Later, she moved to Frederick, MD where she worked at the Frederick County Highway Department until her retirement in 2006. She was an avid reader who loved traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family. Anyone who knew Stella was touched by her genuine kindness, warmth, and grace.

Stella was a member of The Eastern Stars Frederick Valley Assembly #270 and Hope Chapter #52. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary for many years. She was also a member of the Red Hats and Kins and Friends Social Clubs.

To continue her legacy and to celebrate her life, "MaMa" leaves: three daughters, Tanya Pollard of Ranlo, NC, Lisa (Larry) Lewis of Baltimore, MD, and Cathy (Bill) Cleckley of Frederick, MD; four grandchildren, Macio Miller, Antwon Miller, Marc-Anthony Chevalier, and Ciara Miller; three great grandchildren, Renee Miller, Zoey Miller, and Antwon Miller, Jr.; one nephew ,Walter Strawn; III and a host of cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Walter Strawn, Sr., and her devoted friend and companion, Orville Johnson. MaMa will be remembered as the Matriarch of the family and will be truly missed by all.
