Thronie McNair Obituary (1916

"I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. " Psalm 122:1 On December 16, 2014, Thronie McNair fondly known as "THRONIE" and "Aunt T" went home to be with the Lord. Born October 18, 1916, in Horry County, South Carolina, Thronie was the youngest child of the late Jake Ford and Julia Ann Wilson Gause Ford. Her siblings, Victoria Gause, Zeronia Ford, Freeman A. Ford Sr., and Roman Ford, all proceeded her in death. Raised in a Christian home, Thronie began her Christian journey in Hemmingway Chapel A.M.E. and Cherry Hill Baptist Churches in Conway, South Carolina. Thronie received her formal education in the Horry County Public School System and graduated from Whittamore High School. After graduation, she was employed by the Works Project Administration (W.P.A.) as an In-Home Nursing Assistance. In 1939, Thronie relocated to Washington, D.C. and became an active member of the United House of Prayer for all People. There she met the late Bro. George McNair. They were united in Holy Matrimony in 1943. They had no children of their own, but Thronie delighted in her nieces and nephews. Thronie was a devoted wife, one who went about doing good. "She opened her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue was the law of kindness (Prov. 31:26)." Her passion of caring for her family and her kindness to her friends and everyone she encountered is a living memorial to her beautiful life. Thronie had a long and extended work history. In the District of Columbia she was employed as a cook/food server and she worked as a nursing assistance in Children's Hospital. In 1962, she became a Civil Servant, gaining employment with Government Service Administration (GSA) and was assigned to the State Department. She retired from GSA in 1979 and relocated to Lakeview, South Carolina. There her compassion, dedication and love for her family was made even more evident as she became caregiver for numerous family members and provided tender loving care (TLC) for them in her home until their deaths. In 2008 when her own health was failing, Thronie relocated to Frederick, MD to live with her niece, Marilyn Ford who provided TLC for her in her home. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands are at rest. Gone but not forgotten, Thronie leaves to cherish her memory: nieces and nephews McKinley M. Ford (Willie Ann), James N. Ford, Shirley Ann Ford, Freeman A. Ford Jr. (Louise), Marilyn D. Ford, Phyllis J. Ford, Gertrude F. Bratcher (Harold S. Bratcher Sr.), Jean G. Ford, and Douglas E. Ford, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
